In some circumstances it should be legal to punch people

It was sometime last week. My mother was sick and she went to see the doctor because she just wasn’t getting better. Her doctor sent her to a clinic to have some x-rays done. So far, so good. A few days later she receives a call from the x-ray clinic. The woman on the phone tells her that she should make an appointment with her family doctor right away. That’s all. She asks if there is someone there who can give her more information and the woman on the phone tells her no.

As any of us would in such a situation, my mother starts to wonder what could be wrong. Cancer, maybe? It only takes one such thought to have it consume your thinking. A sleepless night later, having gotten my father to come back from his business trip early, she manages to get in to see her doctor. The doctor tells her that the results of the x-rays indicate that she has a sinus infection.

Bloody fucking hell!

I don’t care if you are just a lowly secretary at a lowly clinic where the doctors rotate out every six months to go work at real offices you still work in the health care industry! Take a moment to use your pathetic little mind and think about what you are doing. What would they have done if, upon hearing the news, my mother had died of a heart attack? Maybe it isn’t the lowly secretary’s fault, maybe it is the doctor. Again, I don’t care if this little clinic is where you are killing time until you can start your own practice, if you hate what you’re doing. You chose your path and now you had damn well better do a decent job of it. A fucking sinus infection and you couldn’t tell her "you don’t have a fatal disease"?? I can understand not wanting to give out too much information when you are not her primary doctor but for Christ’s sake, "you’re not dying" isn’t likely to cause too many problems.

If you are working in the health care industry and are so overwhelmed by your own apathy, do us all a favour: quit or kill yourself before you do more damage.
