Props to the Harperites, Boo-urns to evacuees

Some people are never happy. There is a story on canada.com from the National Post entitled Boat trip to Cyprus ‘horrible’. Okay, fine. So the trip wasn’t a luxury cruise. You know what? You aren’t being blown up anymore. Jesus! What do these people expect? Do they think that the Canadian Government has specially outfitted and staffed rescue ships waiting all over the globe to respond quickly if there is an evacuation to be made?

They complain that it took them 10 hours to board the ship. Of course it took a long time – to get them out quickly the government sent in a cruise ship. Do you think the staff of a cruise ship is trained for that? Of course not! They complained that the staff on the ship were not organized. They complained that there weren’t any Canadians staffing the ship. Would they have rather waited longer in Lebanon while the government took the time to train the ship’s crew and ensure a bureaucrat behind every bulkhead?

One woman, obviously retarded, said “I’m very relieved [to be out of Lebanon], but you know what? I would prefer to stay in Lebanon instead of coming this way — I mean the way we were treated.”. Of course! Who would rather stay in a war zone than undergo an inconvenient boat ride? Retards, that’s who. Given the choice between being blown up or being seasick for 13 hours I’d take the boat ride every time.

So I say kudos to the Canadian Government for the work they are doing. Sure it wasn’t all smooth but they are getting people to safety and working damn hard to do it. I think more people should be talking about that. Speaking of not always looking for fault where there is none – what’s all of this crap about Stephen Harper using his plane to take people from Cyprus to Canada? He took his plane with a stripped down staff (the airplane’s staff, not his), his wife, a couple of his communications staff and his official photographer to Cyprus to pick up refugees. Everyone seems to be making a big deal about the photographer. They are calling it a photo op. Let’s think about this. If it were a photo op, would he have made the reporters who travel with him get off the plane before it went to Cyprus or let them find commercial transport in Cyprus so they could take lots of pictures of him? Maybe he just kept his staff with him because he knew that the opposition would bitch him out if his staff had to take commercial flights home on the tax payers’ dime when he had a perfectly good jet right there. So, he keeps his staff, kicks off the press and goes to help some of his fellow citizens out. I, for one, say good job!
